Welcome to the inaugural episode of "Faith and Friction," a new platform where we delve into the fascinating and sometimes uncomfortable intersection of faith and culture. We are your hosts, Mack and The Rev, and we are thrilled to take the journey of a deep dive into faith's unrest with you.
The Genesis of Faith and Friction
Over the past few weeks, we've been brewing ideas and laying the foundation for what we hope will be a series of meaningful conversations. Our goal is simple: to explore and discuss the intricate relationship between faith and culture, and to uncover the nuances that come with it. As we navigate this journey, we aim to celebrate the friction that arises—a friction that we believe can lead to growth and understanding.
What To Expect
Our discussions will go beyond religion or tradition. We'll delve into identity, belonging, and the choices we make when our beliefs and the world around us don't quite align. This is about exploration and transformation, surviving the tough conversations, and coming out stronger on the other side.
We plan to address a variety of themes and topics, each treated like a new scientific and spiritual adventure. We'll examine the subtle differences between faith and belief, consider faith's relationship to cultural dynamics, and more. Our sessions aim to inspire curiosity and open-mindedness among our listeners. As Rev mentioned, "Imagine Yosemite Valley—born from friction, yet a sight of majesty." We aspire to discover such majestic outcomes in our discussions.
The Power of Open Dialogue

Our approach involves creating a laboratory for exploration. Even if tensions rise or debates heat up, our intention is never to fight, but rather to play within the playground of diverse ideas. We want our audience and guests to come with an open heart and an open mind. Throughout our exchanges, we plan to highlight both conscious and unconscious biases, peeling back layers to reveal deeper truths and understandings.
Conversations That Matter
In our increasingly divided world, the art of conversation seems to be losing its way. We intend to change this by plunging into discussions on topics many avoid, like the dichotomy of religion and politics or the conflict between spirituality and concrete belief systems. We aim for our podcast to fill a void, facilitating conversations that may lead to awakening and transformation, touching the hearts and minds of everyone involved.
